The legendary songstress Celine Dion, beloved by millions both for her incredible talent and beautiful personality, has released a powerful new song entitled, “Flying On My Own.” The studio version is a track on Dion’s twelfth English-language album, Courage which will be released in November. Performing at her sold-out residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas on the final night of her 16-year run, Celine said “I have been waiting for a long, long time for… It’s my brand new song. I have to admit that my knees are shaking right now, I’m very nervous.”

The song is a tribute to Celine’s husband and lifelong love, René Angélil who tragically died in 2016 at the age of 73 after surviving a diagnosis of throat cancer for over 18 years. Rene had not only been the love of Celine’s life, but also her manager and business partner, and he was the mastermind behind the extremely successful and lucrative residency at Caesar’s Palace that involved the construction of a purpose-built auditorium and thousands of jobs. Rene stated many times the residency was his legacy for his wife, as he knew his time was ending and he wanted to ensure she was financially secure enough to pursue whatever lifestyle she wanted in his absence as her business manager and husband.

“What was the hardest for me is that, as you all know it’s very easy for me to cry, but I did not want to cry because I wanted to prove to myself, I wanted to prove to myself that I didn’t want the tears and the emotion to take over my strength that I feel,” Dion said backstage. “Flying on my own, this is a new chapter. René will always remain in my life.”

“I’m both proud and humbled by what we’ve accomplished at the Colosseum since we began 16 years ago, when René and I first shared this dream,” Dion said. “This entire experience has been a huge part of my show business career…one that I will cherish forever. I have so many people to thank, but the most important ‘thank you’ goes to my fans, who gave us the opportunity to do what we love.” According to Sony Music, the song is more of a gift to fans than an official single from the album and was not sent to radio stations but rather released as a Live video on Celine’s YouTube channel.

Celine has been very transparent about her loss and her grief at losing the man who was her ‘one and only’ and the father of her three children. However, three years after Rene’s loss, she is ready to move on and ‘fly on her own, on the wings of [his] love”. She found the confidence to conclude her residency in Las Vegas and move onto other things, namely a world tour in 2020 in addition to the new album ‘Courage’. “Flying on My Own” is not only an uplifting ballad about finding strength in oneself, but an announcement to the world that yes, Celine is okay and she will go on.
