I can still remember those days as a little girl, watching with wonder as my mother applied a magical powder laced with crystalline sparkles to her dewy skin after a bath.  It was a familiar sight, for indeed ladies in the movies and cartoons I watched also shared this habit, one of many mysterious customs that only grown up women knew about.  I can still remember the luxurious smell the little poofs of powder would give off… similar to her favorite perfume but somehow lighter.

As I grew up, the custom was lost to convenience and modern potions and procedures, and I never took up that mysterious yet enchanting custom myself.  Cut to recent days however, and watching a host of old movies throughout the holidays, and I have a craving for a more elegant evening repertoire.  I decided to find out if dusting powder was still a thing, and if it was still an elegant luxury, or a tedious chore with little benefit.

Well, I’m happy to report that it is still in vogue to use dusting powder!  Not only that, but apparently it’s always been fashionable and a great way to moisturize your skin.  The powder actually locks in moisture the same way your lotion would, and luxury dusting powder can be just as highly scented.  I was pleased to discover they still produce some of the same fragrance dusting powders that my grandmother used, in addition to having created current season friendly options.

When searching for luxurious dusting powders I was pleased to find some familiar names.  One company I will always love is Woods of Windsor… it just reminds me of being a teenage tourist in the English countryside and buying countless gifts in small boutique shops.  Some of those gifts included the beautiful lavender scented products from Woods of Windsor that I highly recommend, and I love their rose scent as well.   Overall, this is the perfect rose dusting powder and the smell is subtle, feminine and very pretty.   The puff is not the most luxurious, but the packaging is pretty and the price point is extremely reasonable.

emeraude fragrance dusting powder luxuryEmeraude dusting powder is scented with a women’s fragrance that was launched by the design house of Coty all the way back in 1921.  This means that our great-grandmothers might have worn this very dusting powder! The scent possesses a blend of jasmine, orange, and other citrus florals and ends with notes of spice and sandalwood. It is recommended for evening wear.  I can recall this from my grandmother’s house, it’s a signature scent and something you will probably find pleasantly familiar if you were to encounter it.Similar in lightweight and silky formulation is a dusting powder launched by the design house of Estee Lauder in 1953 called Youth Dew.  It is a refreshing and subtle scent that possesses a blend of warm and exotic fragrances, with notes of jasmine and rose, amber, moss and patchouli.  This is another dusting powder that has been around for generations, with many mothers and grandmothers possessing a box of this in their arsenal of bath products.

I hope you enjoyed this light dusting of recommendations scented with quite a lot of nostalgia.  Comment below and let me know whether or not you use dusting powder, and if you remember your mother or grandmother using it as well.  I’d also love to hear your recommendations too, leave them below!

With love and lavender powder, Lacey
